Leather crust accounts for 70% of the cost for finished leather. It is also the base for whichever finish or pattern that will be applied. This makes crust the most important part of the automotive leather process. We work with each client to customize the most superior crust for each program.

Why is our crust superior?

We understand the importance of having the best value crust for each automotive program.
We hand select our tanners to produce the most suitable crust for whichever process will eventually be applied to the crust including:

  • Finishing Color
  • Grain
  • Cutting pattern
  • Thickness
  • Type of product (ie: car seat, steering wheel)

In spite of our connections with finishing and cutting plants, we have customized each type of crust to fit each product’s specifications. We call this the crust “marriage process.” This process is designed to ultimately serve our customers with the best:

  • Quality
  • Yield
  • Cost

Quality

We know that each car has different quality specifications. That is why we work closely with our clients to choose which leather quality is best for them.

Yield

In 2012, cutting plant operators calculate that each percentage point of yield is equal to a gain/loss of $0.045 USD/per foot. We do not underestimate the importance of attaining the highest possible yields. Many of our customers report that our crust achieves higher yields than expected, saving our clients thousands of dollars.

Cost

At Automotive Leather Group, we understand the importance of increasing profit margins, just like every company. We firmly believe in lowering the cost of our goods to increase the profit margins of our clients. Your success is our success.
